“Leaky faucet and the Drips” was formed in St.Catharines in 1972 by five high school friends, all in their senior year, to play at the high school’s Variety/Talent Show. Their two song debut was a huge hit in that show; so much so, that the band expected a call from Columbia Records at any time.
Some of the Drips graduated from high school later that year, ( being the best 7 years of their lives so far ) and so the members drifted away from St.Catharines : moving off in all different directions and engaging in different careers.
Well, time goes bye,; and eventually several members were living in the Niagara area. So 34 years later the Drips reformed and started gigging again with three of the original members; Dave Mossop, Steve Doede and Gary McClelland; and some talented new additions; Steve Venhuizen, Mike Dixon, and BRUCE CHAMBERS.
Unable or unwilling to improve on the original name of the band, the guys adopted the name from the old high school group. Surprisingly , no other musical groups had picked up and started using that name (?).
The Drips play classic rock tunes, with a few modern rock songs tossed into the mix. They play regularly in local bars such as the Jordan House and the Duck (ie. Golden Pheasant), as well as at private parties, charity and corporate events , fundraisers, and other types of functions. The Drip concerts are like a big house party , with the band members interacting and socializing with the audience during the show and the intermissions. It is a great opportunity for everyone to relax, dance , have some fun , and keep rocking !
And, of course, after all these years, the Drips are still waiting for that phone call.
